Scientist at Work

The students developed a plan to rescue the gummy worm Fred.  They were to place him in the life preserver (Gummy Lifesaver) and Fred was not touch the desk.  They worked in pairs to make the rescue.  Take a look at these scientist at work!

We had an awesome time at UNC Charlotte.  Good behavior, good food and a wonderful tour of the UNC campus.  Thank you Dr. Barber,  Ms. Jeeter and parents for supporting our AVID 5th graders! 

 

Awesome Speaker!

Mrs. Brown came by to speak to our students about the obstacles she faced as a newcomer to the U.S.  She also shared holiday customs and artifacts from the Ukraine, her native country.  The students made many connections to their study of immigration in social studies. It was a wonderful treat!

Parents

Pontiac Elementary summer hours will begin Monday, June 5. The school will be open Monday - Thursday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. The school will be closed on Fridays.  The normal schedule will resume on August 7. Have a safe and fun filled summer!

Allison participated in the Maker Faire on last week. Take a look at the beautiful Pinata she created out of recycled material.  We are proud to have such a talented young artist in our classroom.  Great job Allison!

Field Study!

Parents,
A field study permission slip was sent home in communication folders today. Please fill out all parts of the packet. We are taking a field trip to Camp Blythewood on November 18. It is a wonderful opportunity for students to participate in hands-on science activities. They will discuss animal habitats and explore the campsite. The field study will reinforce objectives studied during the ecosystem unit. The cost of the field study is $15.00. We are in need of a few chaperones. If you are interested, let us know!
